Drama Studio

Bath, Somerset

King Edward’s School employed Mitchell Eley Gould to design improved accommodation for their drama department, this was to include the potential for classrooms in the furture and as such the scheme was designed to provide all the necessary rooms required to run an entire department within one building. The developed scheme has the flexibility to change with the evolving curriculum in the future. The form and materiality of the elevation reflect the existing buildings on site. The gabled roof form takes its cue from the surrounding pitched roof buildings. The current material palette on site is largely buff reconstituted stone and dark grey tiles. The introduction of bathstone colour brick in the proposed scheme is an endeavour to respond to the existing material palette while incorporating a cost-effective and quality product that will compliment the contemporary design.
