Mitchell Eley Gould were appointed by White Space Development to design two new homes for on a brownfield infill site in the World Heritage City of Bath. Our approach taken has been sympathetic and the buildings are of a scale that knits favourably into the surrounding area, particularly with regards to the delicate issues related to overlooking and car parking. The proposal takes inspiration from the immediate built context and uses the site-specific opportunities to inform the building design and orientation in order to make it unique. The use of rubble stone, zinc cladding and green roofs allude to the materiality found in contemporary dwellings appearing within the City - this materiality gives the houses a sense of place within the city. Internal organisation creates opportunities for enjoying the splendid views across the city, taking advantage of the sites sloping topography.
