Bath & North East Somerset social housing on site
Argyle Works social housing development on site in central Bath
We have been working with Bath and North East Somerset’s for the last 2 years to help them deliver their affordable housing in the region. The developments are part of the B&NES Homes programme, which is using existing council properties and surplus land to deliver affordable homes for residents. Argyle Works, in central Bath, and Danes Lane, in Keynsham, are both infill brownfield sites with complex constraints. Our experience in achieving consents and overcoming technical site constraints has been needed to help the BANES unlock the potential of these sites and achieve their housing targets.
Work on site is progressing well at Argyle Works, Bath site, where we are delivering eight affordable, energy-efficient apartments. In addition, we have commenced construction on ten affordable homes in Keynsham, transforming a former informal parking site into high-quality housing. The projects are currently on site with Mealings Contractors who we are working closely with.
This week councillor Kevin Guy and council owned developer, Aeques, chair Sally Higham visited the two sites to review progress. Kevin Guy commented:
‘It was great to see how we are making the most of smaller sites such as these, both of which had been ignored historically because they posed challenges.’
Sally Higham, Aequus chair, said:
“Visiting both schemes in their different stages provided a good opportunity to understand how we are overcoming the constraints on each plot in order to develop much-needed properties. Both when finished will be energy efficient and therefore more affordable to run for residents. I look forward to returning when they are completed.”
