Cotswolds Dogs + Cats Home

Gloucestershire

Mitchell Eley Gould won a competition to design an Animal Rehoming Centre in Gloucestershire. After planning permission was awarded the design was developed, tendered and completed on site July 2016. The client has aspirations to create an environment that will respond to their holistic attitude to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals. The design is for a cluster of buildings orientated around a courtyard that is used as a device to both separate and visually connect people and animals to the landscape. The driver for the scheme remains that a high quality environment for the team working at the centre, will allow them to provide a high quality of care. The buildings will provide: - An exemplary environment for the care of animals. - Enhanced interaction between the animals and their carers. - A high quality of space, light and natural ventilation. - Low energy needs and low maintenance to keep running costs down. - The use of recycled rain water and SUDS drainage. - Waste treated on site before discharging clean water to natural swale drains. - The use of PV panels and ground source heat pumps. - Low levels of sound transmission and a quiet environment.

They worked closely with us to help define brief, and furthermore create an innovative and special design for our centre; one that is both architecturally, interesting at all, so technically robust in the way it is detailed.

An inspiring building makes a motivated, passionate and happy team delivering exceptional animal welfare.”
